How Payments Work
Section titled “How Payments Work”Your makerspace is the seller and the merchant of record for its own sales. You connect your makerspace’s own payment provider account, buyers pay your makerspace directly, and payments go to your makerspace’s own payment-provider account. MakerVera provides the checkout pages and order tracking.
Key Concepts
Section titled “Key Concepts”- Single-item checkout — Each purchase goes through its own checkout session. There is no shopping cart.
- Cover fees — Buyers can optionally cover your payment provider’s fees so your makerspace receives the full amount.
- Member pricing — Products can have a discounted price for members.
- Platform fee — MakerVera takes a small application fee on event ticket sales, from your makerspace’s own charge. The rate is shown on your Payments settings page.
What Happens During Checkout
Section titled “What Happens During Checkout”- The buyer selects an item and clicks purchase
- MakerVera opens your payment provider’s checkout page
- The buyer pays there
- Your payment provider confirms the payment to MakerVera
- If the buyer pays by bank debit (ACH Direct Debit), the payment can take a few business days to clear. The order is fulfilled only once the payment succeeds, and the buyer is emailed if it fails. See Bank Debit Payments.
- The order is fulfilled (the product is delivered, a gift card code is generated, or the donation is recorded)
All monetary values are displayed in your makerspace’s configured currency.
Two Types of Billing
Section titled “Two Types of Billing”It’s important to understand that MakerVera has two separate billing systems:
-
Platform subscription — What your makerspace pays MakerVera for access to the platform (plan tiers, add-ons, member surcharges). Managed on the Plan page under Settings. See the Platform Subscription guide.
-
Member payments — What your makerspace collects from your own members and visitors (store purchases, gift cards, donations), paid into your makerspace’s own payment account. See the guides below.
