Custom Sending Domains

By default, MakerVera sends notification emails from a shared platform address — your members see messages from “Your Makerspace via MakerVera” with a @makervera.com sender. With a custom sending domain, emails come directly from your own domain (e.g., notify@yourmakerspace.org), which strengthens your brand and isolates your email reputation.

All other notification behavior stays the same — templates, rules, scheduling, analytics, and member preferences work identically regardless of the sending domain.

Custom sending domains are configured by MakerVera platform administrators, not by makerspace admins. This is because the setup involves DNS record changes and domain verification with the email delivery service — a technical process that requires coordination between the platform team and whoever manages your domain’s DNS.

Makerspace administrators with the Manage Notification Settings permission can view the current domain status:

  1. Go to Admin → Communications → Settings
  2. Look for the Email Sending Domain section

You’ll see one of the following:

No custom domainYour makerspace uses the default MakerVera sending address. All notifications work normally.
Pending verificationA custom domain has been configured and is waiting for DNS verification to complete. Emails still use the default address until verification succeeds.
VerifiedYour custom domain is active. All notification emails are sent from your domain.

If a previously verified domain loses its verification (for example, if DNS records are removed), the system automatically falls back to the default MakerVera sending address. No notifications are lost — they continue to be delivered from the platform identity until the domain issue is resolved.

The platform team monitors domain health automatically and will reach out if your domain needs attention.

Yes — the “From” address in their inbox will change from a @makervera.com address to your custom domain. The display name and email content stay the same. Members who have your old address in their contacts may want to update it.

Does a custom domain affect deliverability?

A custom domain gives your makerspace its own email reputation, separate from other makerspaces on the platform. This is an advantage — your deliverability depends only on your own sending practices, not on other makerspaces’ behavior. However, it also means your reputation is in your hands — maintaining a clean member email list and relevant notification content is important.

The domain must be one you control and can add DNS records to. The platform team will provide the specific DNS records needed during setup.

Reply-to behavior is unchanged. Replies to notification emails go to your configured Reply-To address (set in Admin → Communications → Settings), regardless of whether you use a custom sending domain.
