How Times Are Displayed
Section titled “How Times Are Displayed”All dates and times in MakerVera are displayed in your makerspace’s configured timezone. This is the timezone set by your makerspace administrator in Admin > Settings > General.
For example, if your makerspace is configured to use Central Time (America/Chicago), all event times, booking slots, and session schedules will appear in Central Time regardless of where you are located.
Timezone Mismatch Banner
Section titled “Timezone Mismatch Banner”If your browser’s timezone differs from your makerspace’s timezone, an informational banner appears at the top of the page:
You’re viewing times in Central Time (CST), but your device is set to Eastern Time (EST).
This banner is informational only. It reminds you that the times shown may not match your local clock.
Dismissing the Banner
Section titled “Dismissing the Banner”Click the X button to dismiss the banner. It will stay dismissed until:
- You travel to a different timezone. If your device’s timezone changes (e.g., you fly from New York to Los Angeles), the banner reappears because the mismatch has changed.
- You clear your browser data. The dismiss state is stored in your browser’s local storage.
For Administrators
Section titled “For Administrators”The makerspace timezone is configured during initial makerspace setup and displayed (read-only) in Admin > Settings > General. This timezone is used as the source of truth for:
- Event and session scheduling
- Booking time slots
- Availability windows
- All date/time display throughout the application
The timezone cannot be changed after setup. A makerspace is a physical space — its timezone doesn’t change. All event and booking times are stored as absolute UTC moments and displayed using this timezone. Changing it after data exists would silently shift every displayed time, so it is locked to prevent accidental misconfiguration.
If the timezone was set incorrectly during setup, contact support for a database-level correction.
Future Plans
Section titled “Future Plans”A future release will allow individual users to choose their preferred display timezone from their profile settings. When this ships, times will be shown in the user’s chosen timezone while form submissions (bookings, event creation) will continue to use the makerspace timezone for business correctness.
