What Are Notification Preferences?
Section titled “What Are Notification Preferences?”MakerVera sends email notifications on behalf of your makerspace — booking confirmations, event reminders, membership notices, and announcements. You can control which of these emails you receive from your Profile Settings tab.
Managing Your Preferences
Section titled “Managing Your Preferences”- Go to your Profile (click your name or avatar in the top right)
- Select the Settings tab
- Scroll to the Notification Preferences card
You’ll see a list of notification categories, each with an email toggle:

How Toggles Work
Section titled “How Toggles Work”- Toggle off = you are opting out of that category. You will no longer receive those emails.
- Toggle on = you are opted in (the default). You will receive emails for that category.
- Changes take effect immediately — there is no save button. The toggle updates your preference as soon as you click it.
Required Notifications
Section titled “Required Notifications”Account & Transactional emails cannot be turned off. These include critical messages like payment receipts, booking confirmations, and security notices that are necessary for your account to function properly.
The toggle for this category appears locked with an explanation below it.
What Happens When You Opt Out
Section titled “What Happens When You Opt Out”When you opt out of a category:
- The system records your preference and stops sending you emails in that category.
- You can opt back in at any time by toggling the switch back on.
- Opting out does not affect transactional emails (receipts, security notices, etc.).
- Your preference applies only to the current makerspace. If you’re a member of multiple makerspaces, each has its own preferences.
Frequently Asked Questions
Section titled “Frequently Asked Questions”I opted out but still received an email?
Section titled “I opted out but still received an email?”Transactional emails (receipts, confirmations, security notices) are always sent regardless of your preferences. If the email you received falls into one of those categories, that’s expected. For optional categories, your opt-out takes effect immediately — including for any notifications that were already scheduled but haven’t been sent yet. Preferences are checked at the moment of sending, so even queued emails will be suppressed.
Can my makerspace admin override my preferences?
Section titled “Can my makerspace admin override my preferences?”No. Your notification preferences are entirely under your control. Makerspace administrators cannot change your opt-out choices.
Can I opt out of all emails?
Section titled “Can I opt out of all emails?”You can opt out of all optional categories (event reminders, membership notices, and announcements). Account & transactional emails are required and cannot be turned off.
I’m not receiving any emails at all
Section titled “I’m not receiving any emails at all”This may be a delivery issue rather than a preference issue. Check your spam folder first. If the problem persists, contact your makerspace administrator — they can check the delivery logs to see if emails to your address are being blocked or bouncing.
