What’s the difference between an Event and a Class?

Events are general workshops, activities, or gatherings. They don’t require a designated instructor.

Classes are structured learning experiences that require an assigned instructor. Classes often have prerequisites and lead to certifications.

What’s the difference between single-session and multi-session?

Single-session events happen once at a specific date and time. You register for that one occurrence.

Multi-session courses meet multiple times (like a weekly class for 4 weeks). You register for a “cohort” which enrolls you in all the sessions at once.

A cohort is a specific offering of a multi-session course. Think of it like a “section” of a college class.

For example, “Intro to Woodworking” might have two cohorts:

  • “Spring - Tuesday Evenings”
  • “Spring - Saturday Mornings”

Each cohort has its own schedule, and when you register, you join that specific group.


  1. Find the event in the directory or calendar
  2. Click on it to open the registration page
  3. Select your session (single event) or cohort (multi-session course)
  4. Click Register and confirm

Make sure you’re logged in to your account. Member pricing only appears for logged-in members with active memberships.

Can I register for just one session of a multi-session course?

No. Multi-session courses require registering for the entire cohort. This ensures everyone in the class progresses together through all sessions.

Look for a “Join Waitlist” option. If available, you’ll be notified when a spot opens up. Register quickly when notified, as waitlist spots are first-come, first-served.

Generally, each person needs to register themselves. Some events allow guest tickets - check the event details or contact the makerspace.

I registered but didn’t get a confirmation email. What should I do?

  1. Check your spam/junk folder
  2. Verify your email address in your account settings
  3. Contact the makerspace to confirm your registration

How do I know if an event has prerequisites?

Prerequisites are shown on the event registration page. If you don’t meet them, you’ll see a banner explaining what’s required.

I have the required certification but can’t register. Why?

Your certification may not be properly recorded in the system. Contact the makerspace to verify your certifications are up to date.

Can I skip prerequisites if I have experience?

No. Prerequisites are required for safety and consistency. If you believe you should be exempt, contact the makerspace to discuss options.


Member price is a discounted rate for makerspace members. Public price is for non-members. This encourages membership while still allowing public participation.

Yes! Non-members can attend at the public price. It’s a great way to try the makerspace before committing to membership.

Why does the same class have different prices for different cohorts?

Pricing can vary by cohort. Weekend sessions might cost more than weeknight sessions, or early-bird cohorts might have discounts.


What happens if I miss a session in a multi-session course?

Contact the instructor or makerspace. Depending on the course, you may be able to:

  • Make up the session with another cohort
  • Receive materials to catch up
  • In some cases, nothing can be done and you’ll miss that content

Can I switch to a different cohort after registering?

Contact the makerspace administration. Switches are subject to availability and may have restrictions.

Most events send reminders 24-48 hours before. Check your notification settings and email to ensure you receive them.


Contact the makerspace administration to cancel. Cancellation policies vary, so do this as early as possible.

The standard policy is 100% refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the event. Some events may have different policies - check the event details.

You’ll be notified and receive a full refund. Keep an eye on your email for cancellation notices.

What if I need to miss one session of a course?

Missing one session doesn’t typically qualify for a partial refund. Contact the makerspace to discuss your options.


Go to My Classes to see all sessions you’re assigned to teach, organized by upcoming and past.

No, instructors can view their assignments but cannot edit event details. Contact an administrator to make changes.

  1. Open the session from My Classes
  2. Find the roster/attendance section
  3. Mark each participant as Present, Absent, or No-Show
  4. Save your changes

A participant says they’re registered but I don’t see them. What do I do?

Ask them to verify their registration status. If they’re certain they registered, contact an administrator to investigate.

Yes, but an administrator needs to reassign the session. Contact them as early as possible to arrange coverage.


How do I make an event visible to members?

Change the event status from “Draft” to “Published” in the Settings tab. Events must have at least one session to be published.

Why isn’t anyone registering for my event?

Check that:

  • The status is “Published” (not Draft or Archived)
  • Sessions are added and visible
  • Prerequisites aren’t blocking too many people
  • Pricing is appropriate for your audience

How do I set up different pricing for different cohorts?

Edit each cohort individually and uncheck “Use Event Settings” to enter custom capacity and pricing.

Can I copy an event to create a similar one?

Currently, you’ll need to create a new event and re-enter the details. Consider keeping a document with your standard event configurations for quick reference.

Change the status to “Archived” in the Settings tab. This hides the event from public listings while preserving the data.
